DOARAT is a Japanese streetwear brand deeply connected to Tokyo’s underground fashion and music culture. Its roots go back to 1994, when musician Toshimi Watanabe of TOKYO No.1 SOUL SET launched the predecessor brand EMANUEL. In 1997, the brand evolved into DOARAT and became part of the influential Harajuku streetwear scene.
DOARAT was known for combining graphic design, hip-hop, music, skate and youth culture with a distinctly Japanese street style. T-shirts, hoodies, jackets and caps were especially popular, and the brand developed a strong following during the late 1990s and 2000s.
Its original retail presence gradually disappeared in the mid-2010s, and the original brand activity came to an end. The company that later handled the brand also went bankrupt in 2018. However, DOARAT did not completely disappear. The license was acquired by a new company, and the brand was eventually revived, with an official relaunch beginning in 2023.
Today, DOARAT is remembered as one of the characteristic Japanese streetwear labels that reflected the energy of Tokyo’s late-1990s and 2000s street culture.
